mum's day

it was a nice sunny, although cool day on mother's day.  we started the day with a home-made breakfast, with the help of dad.  i also made a special card the night before.

that's why i love my mum so much because even if it's mother's day, she still had to bring me to a mother's day performance that our dance group had to do in fox studio.

after the peformance, we had an afternoon tea at home with mama and ninang.  mum made a beautiful cake for mama.  we also had cup cakes and sandwiches.  mama made her famous spaghetti for everybody to enjoy.

kids carnival

we participated in the kids carnival 2012 where different dance groups were represented during the night.  we represented our dance studio - a group of 9-13 year old girls, performing a jazz funky hip hop routine.  it's not a competition so there's no added pressure knowing that we are just performing, not competing.

there was also a performance from kookies n kream, a dance group in the semi-finals of australia's got talent.  it was a lot of fun and was my first time in the kids carnival.   the highlight is me getting an urban hip hop pants, something i have always wanted to have.  they had a stall during the carnival and i convinced my mum to please get me one, and i got it.  thanks mum.

that's my cool new urban pants

welcome to the world

my parents' lives were totally changed (i hope for the better) when i made my entrance to this world.  i was told it was a very happy occasion, friends and relatives came and visited me for the first time.  apparently, i was a very healthy baby, weighing 3.44kgs at birth.

my first ever photo right after i was born...wasn't i cute with those chubby cheeks?

skateboarding is fun

one of the sports i took on this year at school is skateboarding.

never skateboarded before but i know i can do a good job at it because of my good balance.  and perhaps my dance training will also help, and sure it did.  i enjoy it so much especially you get to do it with friends in a very safe environment inside the school.

never thought i would love skateboarding this much.  you should give it a go.  i can only do some pretty basic moves for now but i plan to learn some more.  below is a sample of what i  am now able to do.

shy

i love to dance and i know that i enjoy performing a lot especially in front of an audience.  however, i havent really tried singing in front of an audience before.

this year i started going to private singing lessons and part of the training is to perform in front of an audience (mainly families and friends of the students).  we will get to do this every quarter.

i sang 'shy', from the musical, once upon a mattress.  i was a bit nervous at first but i think it came out okay.  you be the judge.  click here to see my rendition

1st term awards

i did very well on my first term in year 7.  i wasn't expecting it but i got merit awards in 5 subjects - technology & design, math, science, chinese and visual arts.  on top of that, i also got a merit award in debating.

i just hope that i keep my focus for the rest of the year and not get distracted by the many activities i do outside of school.

junior jazz band

i am a member of the junior jazz band at school and we do gigs in and out of school, on special occasions.

this one below was during the annual ultimo/glebe village festival last year at wentworth park.  here's some cool jazz pieces, with me doing some solos:

piece #1
piece #2
piece #3

i started learning drums last year and i am loving it.  matt, my drum teacher has a great way of teaching that suits me.  it's quite different from other instruments because it relies on the coordination of your hands and your feet.

i am learning different beats - songo, bembe, mozambique, etc.  these are more latin american beats so quite different to the usual western beat.

this is a sample of what i can do now:  click here for a songo beat

easter holiday

my family spent the easter holiday break in wolgan valley in the blue mountains.  this is a very special place, very remote and isolated but surrounded by national parks.

the villa we stayed in is so cool, it even has its own internal pool.  there's loads of activities you can do inside the resort.  we did mountain biking, bushwalking, horse riding, safari, polaris ride, lots of swimming and endless eating and drinking.

this is definitely one of the best places i have ever been to.
